Community expectation is that animals used for meat are treated well and any necessary husbandry procedures are done with pain relief. Rubber ring castration is painful so consider getting some pain relief. I provide my clients with small amounts of Buccalgesic gel to help. It is meloxicam but designed to be absorbed across the gums. It is only registered for sheep and cattle so you must get a prescription from a vet. The full is 200ml pack but the dose is only 1 ml per 10kg. I always have it on stock but can only provide in small amounts to clients who's goats I have seen according to Queensland laws. Approach your vet about having it is stock for you and other clients. It lasts 6 months once opened. I also give it to kids before disbudding under anaesthesia for after pain.
